Mrauk U…

28 05 2012

We’re so busy at work that we just can’t get our heads around any serious blog-o-rama at the moment (it’s the lead-in to Shirley Hannan 2012.)

So we’re going to drop in some lovely eye candy for intermission…the next leg of our most recent dash to Burma…

After Bagan the Gang flew to Sittwe on the west coast, ahead of a seven hour boat trip up river to Mrauk U, the ancient capital…

…what might have otherwise proved tedious (time-wise) was pleasantly interspersed with luncheon…

…general boat spotting…

and dedicated languishing…

We arrived at the Princess Resort after dark and woke up to this…

Our stay was spent exploring the environs of Mrauk U…

…particularly further upriver…

…visiting Chin villages…

…and doing the rounds of the temples…

Gorgeous.

So many more snaps here.

Wagga interlude…

17 05 2012

The Gang made like the Man from Snowy River this week and high tailed it over the top to Wagga Wagga – omigod, what a drop dead gorgeous drive – there to seriously eyeball all things storage and wallow in the collection..

After a serious mooch, we checked out the National Student Show…

…which pretty much just reaffirmed our earlier preferences…

with the odd addition…

For the rest of the time we just got reacquainted with old faves, like Tom…

…and Hirstie…

…and this ballsy little number…

…heh, heh.

[…and for those of you who have suggested that we’ve devolved yet again into the bog of smutty vulgarity, we wish to point out that we are, in fact, on precisely the right track…go here…or for those who prefer to just cut to the chase…The sensual shapes of his vessels are also intended as vehicles into the unconscious experience of primordial creation. The rounded bellies of the orb shapes and the sagging buttocks of the double lobes, replete with vaginal slit, all speak to a primal act of creation that is sexual and life-giving (quote from the above article.) Balls was tame. Thanks to La Groppa for coming to our defence!! n(Ed)]

Megsie’s writing one of the essays for the upcoming Collection catalogue, so there’s plenty more glass-o-rama ahead.

More goodies here.

Culture mulcher…

7 05 2012

This last weekend involved some serious social cha-cha on Saturday, starting with the lovely Di della V’s big 5-Oh!…

…which also provided the visual treat of the day…

After which we made a beeline to Ivy Hill, for our main man Stan…

He’s really somethin’, we reckon.

Too good. More info on the show (dates/catalogue, etc) here

And, finally, we wound up with the kiddies at the Willy Wagtail in Wyndham…

Noice.

[Duck still good!! n(Ed)]

Bagan…

7 05 2012

Well darls, the Gang had a lovely time in Bagan, at perfect pony-and-cart pace. Sammy Jo was packing up the boat…

…but in between we did manage lunches and dinners and Megsie explored with Myaing Moe, who picked her up from the Tharabar Gate every morning and arvo..

.

Our fave lunch spot was the Tharabar 3 – fanging out with the locals at this famous tea shop (where we had the ultimate fried chicken; rumour in Bagan is that Col. Sanders was actually shot down in Northern Burma, in Kachin country, during WWII and that’s where he ‘found’ his famous you know what. Gotta tell you, that spice mix at Tharabar is mighty close – only better, even)…

Best dinner spot was Harmony, a bar-b-que joint…

.

..where Megsie tucked enthusiastically into the sparrows, but gave the chicken butts a wide berth…

The Poo just kicked back by the pool for the most part…

…while Megsie checked out the sights (we’ve not included amazing snaps of stupas ‘as far as the eye can see’, we did that last year)..

.

…and the art…

…and then Iain arrived and we did it all over again…

Ain’t life grand!!

But the real highlight was the first year blessing of Iain and Sammy Jo’s wedding by the Head Monk…

More snaps here.

Next stop Mrauk U.
