The week in retrospect, random snaps…

What’s been going down in the Bega Valley…

Tom Waits For No Man was the featured band at the Bega Valley Regional Gallery’s monthly music night at the Bowlo Annex Space. The popular program, run by the Gallery’s Public Programs diva, Rachel Burns, will now go into hibernation for the winter (never fear though – the film nights shall continue)…

And apart from that it’s been a complex of beanies and pom poms in the lead up to the opening of Colours of the Country: celebrating 10 years of the Alice Springs Beanie Festival at the Regional Gallery. Concurrent with the install of the exhibition itself, we faced a week of pom pom hanging for the ‘soft’n fuzzy’ entrance piece, designed to ‘set the mood’ and usher peeps into the show.  Something in excess of 1000 pom poms were made by the community for this collaborative ‘sculpture’ and, fortunately, a band of loyal volunteers popped in over the week to lend a hand (…kicking off with Rowena, below.)

But it was so worth the effort – it’s totally darling.

Meanwhile Penny’s local beanie drive was also coming to a head, courtesy of the series of Gai Epstein workshops she’d organised for all the libraries around the Shire. And they’re still streaming in (punters have until the end of May to finish their submissions, after which they’ll be judged by the Mayor before being donated to the Nillumbik Shire in Victoria for the Bushfire Appeal.)
