More culture from Candelo…

13 02 2011

The Gang and Maryanne hopped across Myrtle Mountain yesterday arvo for the launch of Sam Bailey and Sharon Cornthwaite’s exhibition at The Crossing…

Lots of funky retro brooches and jools for which both are renowned, plus a move into vintage clock biz (very cute old bikkie tin faces) and mexican-esque niche icons (which we’re always into) by Shazza, and 2-D work from Sam. Something for everyone really, and there were ample red spots to prove it.

Anyhoo, the artists did a fine job of working the crowd…

…entertainment was provided by Andrew Gray…

…and a lovely time was had by all (Anne and Pete always put on a seriously pleasant opening doo.)

Cognoscenti here.

Dirk Rampling at The Crossing Gallery…

16 08 2010

On Saturday the Gang moseyed over Myrtle Mountain to attend the long awaited reopening of the Crossing Gallery in Candelo (they’ve been enjoying some well-earned time-out, as you do), featuring a solo exhibition from South Pambula sign-writer turned artist Dirk Rampling.

It was a bit of a time warp, catching up with the old mob from at least 2 decades ago, including Val (who was doing the catering, so it was like we’d swapped places!) and Renee (who must have been 8 when we last saw her), and Clive and Tootie and Pete and Liz and…omigawd, the list goes on. Nice, though.

Anyhoo, lots of happy chappies (Candelo always has a good vibe) and a healthy show of red dots.

Snaps of the peeps here (though as usual we were talking so much we kept forgetting to take photos…)

A cultural quickie…

And then on Saturday arvo we beetled across to Candelo for Lynny Ferguson’s show at The Crossing, which was all very laid back and pleasant (and only a quarter hour drive – gotta love that!!)…

Gallery opening in Candelo…

28 09 2008

On our way back home from shed hunting at the big(!) Bega Expo yesterday the Gang stopped off at Candelo for the gala opening of The Crossing Gallery - the latest entry in the Bega Valley cultural stakes. It was a trés stylish, late afternoon affair with superior nibbles, a really fabulous local band and a decent turnout of the wider district’s arts mob. (The gallery’s housed in Baz and Geordie’s old fish’n chipper – if you go back that far - on the corner, by the bridge.)

It’s all been gussied up very nicely (white walls/polished floor/spotties) and while the gallery space itself is relatively small there is a large outdoor area, to the side, which accommodates a sculpture garden. The inaugural exhibition itself was a somewhat mixed(group) affair – and we’ve absolutely no idea whether they intend to continue in this vein or opt for snappier solo shows…suffice to say we’ll be watching developments with great interest.

The painted chicken wire doggy on the tucker box (by Wendy King) was our personal fave.

More pics of the opening action here.
