This Friday at CCAS…

10 12 2009

Just in from Nic…

Dear Friends,
I’m looking forward to seeing some of you for a drink at the opening of my exhibition without reason at Canberra Contemporary Art Space, this Friday the 11th. Invitation attached.

The exhibition features one of my more demanding and theatrical installations raft, so if you can’t make the opening but are traveling through the ACT over summer please call past for a look. Open until February 13th (closed from December 19th – January 19th) http://www.ccas.com.au/

If you’re in Sydney you can find my installation anchor in the new acquisitions show at the MCA, level 4, until January 31, and some of my trophy series in the window of the Australia Council.
In Brisbane my laboratory glass work encounter is on show in New 2009 at The University of Queensland Art Museum, also until January 31.
If you miss these exhibitions there will be ample opportunity to see new work in 2010, with exhibitions at Greenaway Art Gallery Adelaide, Grantpirrie Sydney and Turner Gallery Perth, as well as several group and touring shows.
I hope you enjoy the work.

Best,
Nic

Thought we’d add the notice from CCAS as well – more cool visuals…

Glass spotto…

9 12 2009

Just in from Netster – her amazing score from this year’s ANU glass sale: a vintage Bottari skull cup. Omigod, Stronz, rare as hen’s teeth!

Lucky bugger – we’d have snaffled it ourselves if we’d seen it. Perfeck for a bourbon and coke (…is that still your tipple?)

[PS - lovely Tom Moore in the background, Netty. n(Ed)]

Out of the Box, the third…

8 12 2009

Thought we’d drop in the winner and the handful of pieces that particularly caught our fancy…

Grand Prix: Madeleine Meyer, All the People, clay (a mad tumble of funerary doll-like figures)

Kim Falkenmire, Crater Rim, pencil on Chinese rice paper. Topically cool.

Kimberly Dodd, Jonah’s Whale, wire, found objects. Skanky sweet.

Victoria Kerridge, Looking Back, acrylic on canvass (aka ‘wot Mona saw’)

Ulan Murray, Germ, copper, stainless steel (dubbed ‘alien gonad’ by the judge!)

…and that’s not all, of course; thumbs up also went to Craig Cameron’s video piece, Penny Amberg’s Room with a view, and special mention must be made of Rita Roberts’ exquisite lace and woven treasures…

The snap, of course, hardly does the work justice - but we’re talking 400 odd hours in the lace making alone, without the hand-weaving and those gorgey little balls. Serious respect, Rita.

For very serious consideration…

Just in from Jane…

When opportunity knocks: hang out with Chazza at North Lands Creative Glass

Go for it.

[We want to, bad.  Sammy Jo's just back from Scotland, and it all sounds so wonderful. n(Ed)]

Coming up in Istanbul…

Just in from Dr Gerry…

[Note to selves - we so have to make the trek to Istanbul. Ah yes, one of these days...sigh. n(Ed)]

Baby’s back…

6 12 2009

Serious excitement at the hide-out last week; Sammy Jo surprised us with an early home-coming…

(above) the jet-lagged prodigal, surrounded by lotsa loot.

And, hey, check out the faux Sicilian Twistees…

What a hoot. But wait, there’s more – the Poo’s home, too!! Happy Happy joy joy. Our cup really do runneth over…

We’ve been assured that there are Exotic-ca-ca postcards in the mail. So stay tooned.

Liz Kelly in CMAG’s Gallery 4…

Choice.

Something like this woulda been spiffo for the smokestack…particularly in one of Liz’s signature, custom made colours…

Ooh, err…

5 12 2009

Just in from Nige… an update on Wazza biz.

Trev biz…

5 12 2009

We ran into Trevor Dunbar at the EEAS, and he’s got a show coming up in Sydders if you’re in the neighbourhood…

Looks suitably racy, eh.
