The moths are back (perhaps that’s what’s been causing the recent engine flutters…)
Recently retired Canberra Times political cartoonist Geoff Pryor was yesterday’s featured artist at the Bega Valley Regional Gallery’s monthly artist talk - the public program component of the gallery’s current exhibition Between The Lines.
The lunchtime event proved to be a thoroughly entertaining affair with plenty of political banter tossed between Geoff and the audience, back-dropped by an impromptu demo of his perceptive drawing skills. What a great way to spend a loose weekday lunch hour (not to mention those googie sangers again, washed down with the gallery’s gift bottle of bubbles which Geoff promptly shared with the throng…) Very civilised.

The exhibition runs until October 18th – for additional info go the gallery’s website.
Liz Kelly’s work above, and Wendy Fairclough’s below.
The Gang finally made it to the Narek opening after a (lucky, as it turned out) aborted start…the steed had developed mechanical problems and we’d quite resigned ourselves to having to forego the Friday launch (Pa was charging over the hill like the cavalry, but not until Saturday morning)…when, lo and behold, we discovered on the Saturday morning that we had the wrong day in any case…so we had a win-win-win; car fixed and exhibition and Pa for the long weekend. Perfeck.
Anyhoo, nice show – Wendy Fairclough’s (signature) groupings of domestic vessels, Elizabeth Kelly’s (relatively new) ‘urban clusters’, and Mel Douglas’s (scaled down – perhaps domesticated?) engraved pieces. We’ve long been a fan of Wendy’s work (she should have taken out the Ranamok way before now) so it was nice to actually meet her in person. Liz was looking well, and is gearing up for a stretch down in Tassie again. And Little Mel was still in Canberra, nose to the grind.
There was a fair turnout of both local and Canberra peeps and a spate of red stickers, so one presumes that the financial-doom-’n-glooms haven’t discouraged the art market…yet. Fingers crossed it won’t crunch too significantly.
For happy snaps of the night, go here.
Now here’s a sweet li’l happening - beats the crap out of those boring old christmas baubles…
Speaking of which, here’s a cute li’l archival blast from the past…
…Jane and Tim getting into the hang of things, circa 2000, for the ANU School of Art Glass Workshop’s annual sale.
The clash of exhibition openings abounds in the big smoke and it’s usually no great drama – just a manic crawl to get around everything in time - but it’s not quite so easy in the bush. This Friday there’s a couple to choose from – and not too dreadful a dash if you’re really keen…
…and…
Apologies to our friends at Bermagui, but patently the Gang will be covering the Narek bash; we’ve been looking forward to it for some time. The word is, however, that Mel may or may not be down for the opening - there’s been a few tragedies in the breakage department in the lead-up to the show, and she’s under the gun to have work ready for SOFA…so we’ll just have to wait and see…
